Join Nigerian-born artist Mary Adeosun and co-creator Tristan Bloemstein as they reimagine locally collected bottle caps and braided forms into striking sculptural works inspired by African headpieces, masks, and traditions.
For this all ages workshop, bring your friend, cousins and aunties – create small braided art work for you to treasure or gift!
Drop in, no registrations needed. Children under 14 years must be supervised by a guardian at all times. All materials provided.
After your workshop, we invite you to walk around the library and take in the beautiful art works placed across the walls and glass cabinet.

This project honours cultural heritage while addressing environmental concerns through creative reuse. With the support of community, Mary and Tristan will bring Avondale Library to life with art, workshop and shared moments of connection.
These braiding workshops will welcome people of all ages to come together, share stories and create in community. Happening during Africa Month this May, the exhibition invites both migrants and locals to celebrate culture, honour ancestral knowledge and reflect on how we care for each other and the world around us.
